Tucked into a spectacularly beautiful valley in the Northwest mountains of Mallorca, Soller (Arabic for 'golden bowl') is unquestionably one of the most picturesque places on the island. The town is surrounded by mountains yet the valley opens down to the sea, giving Soller, with its port, a rare combination of trail hiking, mountain biking, road cycling, and swimming and boating all in one place. Isolated from the rest of the island for most of its existence (until the recent opening of the tunnel through the mountains), Soller maintains much of its original character, offering a window into authentic aspects of Mallorcan life and culture. Nowadays, Sóller is 20 minutes away from Palma and about 40 minutes from the airport. It is possible aswell to come with the picturesque train from the center of Palma.
